Buy a female pony foal that descends from a champion stallion? It’s possible, thanks to Deandra van ’t Vaardeken. The sire of this foal, Socrates Optimus, was crowned BRp champion in 2017 and was honoured three years later as national champion of the 6-year-old ponies LRV. Socrates Optimus is no stranger to his excellent showjumping qualities: his sire, Goliath van de Groenweg, took part in six editions of the European Championship (including silver at the European Championship in Millstreet), his dam Miss Mentos was successful at international 1m20 to 1m25 level.
Leandra “C”, Deandra’s dam, won the final of the SBB competition for six-year-olds in 2013, under the saddle of Zoey Vandenberghe. Power of The Dream “C”, a half-sister to Deandra, has also competed in sport. Bugs Bunny van ’t Vaardeken, a son of Ti Amo van Prinseveld out of Leandra “C”, was sold as a foal in 2020 during the BWP Online Foal Auction. If you weren’t able to buy Bugs Bunny then, you now have the chance to buy his half-sister Deandra.
